Attractions In Cape May New Jersey

In addition to the beautiful architecture and the beach, there are many attractions. You can take a train ride, tour historic homes, explore an air museum, watch a play and a whole lot more.  There are a number of grand old seaside hotels and innumerable bed and breakfasts. Many of the attractions are open until Christmas.

  • Washington Street Mall - The mall was created by closing part of Washington Street and converting it to a pedestrian mall. It has dozens of stores and restaurants.

  • Cape May Seashore Line - Provides rail excursions from Cape May

  • Cape May Stage - Theater

  • Carpenter Square Mall - Located adjacent to the Washington Street Mall with shops and restaurants

  • Emlen Physik Estate - A restored Victorian mansion open for tours.

  • Fireman's Hall Museum - A small but worthwhile museum.

  • Lighthouse - In addition to the Lighthouse, you can visit their museum, view the World War II Bunker, hike through the nature trails and bird watch

  • Sport Fishing - The ocean and Delaware Bay provide some great fishing. Cape May has a natural harbor that provides plenty of dockage for a large fleet of Party and Charter Boats.

  • Whale Watching - You can view the whales and dolphins not far off the coast.

  • Para Sailing - Cape May has a beautiful bay which provides excellent opportunities for enjoying the water. Para Sailing is one of the many water sports you can enjoy.

  • Cape May Zoo - The Zoo is a short ride from Cape May.

Getting around town

Cape May is not a very large town. Many attractions are within walking or bicycling distance. Parking can be a bit tight, but places such as the Emlen Physik Estate have plenty of free parking available as do some of the restaurants.

There are numerous boutiques and shops. Many of them are located at the Washington Street Mall.

Things to do on a Rainy Day in Cape May.

One of the beautiful things about Cape May is that there are plenty of things to do. Some of the shore towns have been overdeveloped to the point where all of the family activities such as Miniature Golf Courses have been demolished in order to build homes. Cape May has retained it's family oriented Activities which makes it a great vacation spot.

If you run into bad weather, check out the attractions listed here. Depending on the severity of the weather, you can consider things such as a visit to the Physik estate, the Aviation Museum or the Zoo.

Other Nearby Attractions

In addition to the attractions we have listed, there are a number of other things you can do

  • Visit Wildwood - Wildwood is about 15-20 minutes north of Cape May. You can visit their boardwalk. The Hereford Inlet Lighthouse is at the North End of the Wildwoods.
  • Visit Atlantic City. AC is known for it's boardwalk and casinos. It's about 30 miles north of Cape May on the Garden State Parkway.
  • Take the Cape May - Lewes Ferry. The ferry runs across the Delaware Bay to Lewes Delaware.
