The Merion Inn
Kyle's review 2008 The Merion was offering a very nice early bird. Call them for the times and details as the menu changes daily. I'm not sure if it was us or the hostess, but it seemed like there wasn't much communication and that we were somewhat of a bother. However, once we were seated, the service was excellent, professional and friendly. The early bird menus are limited in selection but the choices were excellent. The decor hasn't changed since our 2005 visit. I suppose it hasn't changed all that much from the early 1900's which is what makes the place so charming. We asked to be seated on the porch which is a little lighter than the inside rooms. They had a piano player by the bar which made the dinner all the more enjoyable. Keep in mind that if you go for the early bird, they do need to turn the tables over for their early evening reservations.
Kyle's Review - 2005 The Merion Inn was built in 1885 by Main Line residents who were looking for a quiet restaurant similar to those found on the Main Line. When you enter the restaurant you step back in time. There is a piano bar with a grand piano. We ate in "the Porch" This room is decorated with stained glass, old paintings and Victorian wallpaper and carpeting. The room has a warm feel. the non smoking section which was smoke free thanks to glass between us and the smoking section. There are a number of dining rooms in the restaurant. he front porch is cozy but you will have everyone passing by on their way in. The Merion Inn website has some excellent 'virtual tours' of their dining rooms. I ordered the "no frills" broiled shrimp and scallops. It was a healthy, delicious serving with a side of garlic mashed potatoes and applesauce. For dessert I ordered the Profiteroles. These are delicious cream puffs with a sweet filling. The service was prompt and attentive. They are kid friendly. Parking, as with almost any place in Cape May, is tight. Your best bet if you are nearby is to walk. The air conditioning provided for a pleasant dining experience. Kiki's Review The Merion Inn opened in 1885. There are several dining rooms. The main entrance leads to a walnut bar with a black baby grand on the side. Oil paintings from the 19th century decorate the walls. Orchids and baby breaths grace the white linen table cloths – pink-petaled frosted candles light the tables. Fresh muffins and rolls are served with butter and apple butter. Jazz standards play from the baby grand. Water is served in pink stemmed wine glasses. To start I had a green salad served with chunk Blue cheese dressing. Next, I had spinach ravioli in a sun-dried tomato sauce served with squash medley and coleslaw. For dessert I had crème brulee which was very creamy and rich in texture. Dining at the Merion Inn is like stepping back in time.
