The Virginia Hotel is a sister hotel of Congress Hall. The hotel is
on Jackson Street less than a half block from the beach.
We had reservations for 6 pm on a Wednesday in early June. The dining
room was almost empty at that time. The room is tastefully done with floral
wallpaper, urns, and is romantically lit.
We started off with bread and a complimentary tasting of a delicious crab
in a cantaloupe mousse. I ordered a cappuccino ($4). For the main course, I
ordered the scallops served over crab lentils($28). There were 5 very large
scallops done to perfection.
For desert I tried the chocolate truffle with pistachio ice cream.($7)
They offered any menu item for half price (half portion) for our nine
year old. They also had a few kids items. He loves pasta so he opted for the
kids angel hair pasta with parmesan cheese ($6)
If you go, make sure to look up the main stairway. There is a beautiful
stained glass window at the landing.
They are kid friendly (Our nine year old son was with us). As
stated earlier the atmosphere is romantic and subdued. Make sure that the
kids can blend in.
Parking is tight as is the norm in Cape May. If you can, your best bet is
to walk.

The dining room is plum-colored with beige linens and palm
trees with piped in piano music.
I had two appetizers: chilled Maine lobster & pea green salad, bacon,
brioche, lemon-tarragon aioli & sweet pea coulis. Good but small. $13.00
2nd appetizer: pan roasted soft-shell crab, watermelon, cucumber,
watercress and pickled onion vinaigrette $12.00. Very good.
For dessert: Vanilla bean crème brulee with almond biscotti $7.00
Take a date to impress.
