Cape May Gingerbread

Cape May is, of course, famous for it's Victorian Gingerbread homes. Here are some photographs of various homes and some close ups of the 'gingerbread'.

There are many definitions for Gingerbread such as 'frivolous decorative details' and decorative wooden trim. The advent of the industrial age made it possible to create ornate wood trim at an affordable cost. The Victorians applied this trim to their homes with abandon. The result was some of the most aesthetically appealing buildings.
